Exercise,
Growth Hormone Release & Height
You probably know by now that if
you are looking to maximize your height
growth it is best if you can maximize your bodies' natural
growth hormone release. But just how can you do this?
There are many different
supplements out on the market today that claim to do this but
whether or not many of them really do is another question. More
often than not they either do not list the supposed ingredients
they contain so you really don't even know what you are getting
or else they do not contain high enough doses of the stated
ingredients to really make any difference.
Aside from those points, the
best way you are going to see dramatic effects would be actually
injecting your body with growth hormone, however this is an
option that is really available to only a few and likely only
done under medical supervision. Furthermore, once your growth
plates have fused, increases in growth hormone release, hoping
it will make you grow another foot is a far-fetched goal that is
not going to happen.
There are natural ways that you
can stimulate the body into increasing the concentrations of
growth hormone that it releases though, all of which are much
healthier options than some of the products you may have looked
into taking.
The first way is through your
sleep. Sleep is one of the prime periods when the body releases
growth hormone so being sure you take advantage of this is
extremely smart. When referring to circadian rhythm in general,
not just in regards to growth hormone but all the other hormones
that are associated with sleep (cortisol, etc), it is best if
you can try and get to sleep before the midnight hour. It seems
as though the body is better primed to get a higher quality of
sleep in the first few hours you are sleeping and these benefits
are increased even more if it comes before midnight.
The next way to take advantage
of your bodies' natural growth hormone release is by maximizing
your exercise behaviours. Growth hormone acts in a similar way
to that of testosterone, being released in highest quantities
upon short duration, intense exercise while being reduced when
one partakes in longer duration, moderate intensity work.
For you this means your time is
going to be much better spent in the weight room lifting as
heavy of weights as possible in the 4-8 rep range. To put this
in perspective, imagine right now a professional body builder
and then imagine a marathon runner. Who looks like they have
grown the most? Considering most marathon runners look as though
the wind would be a challenge for them to stand up against, the
body builder wins hands down. This goes to show you who likely
has more growth hormone circulating throughout their body.
Remember that in addition to its height inducing properties,
potentially even a more noticeable property of growth hormone is
increased muscle mass.
So it only stands to reason from
that last statement that partaking in hours of cardio exercise
is not a smart move when looking to maximize growth hormone. You
do want to do some weight bearing cardio exercise as this itself
can make your bones stronger thus preventing stress fractures
from occurring but too much will simply be overkill and could
actually put you at risk for developing broken bones.
Overtraining is another culprit
that reduces growth hormone so don't go thinking that you should
be doing 10 short but intense sessions in the gym either. While
you have the right form of exercise and intensity figured out,
frequency is also important. When your body cannot handle all
the stress that is being placed upon it, it is just going to
continue to break itself down instead of build itself up. This
for you equals little growth in any direction.
So if you want to maximize your
growth hormone release so you can grow taller but don’t want
to give into buying one of the many (and often useless)
supplements out there, consider your sleeping and exercise
habits. Getting those on track is going to be the first thing
you should look at anyway, not only because of it's affect on
growth hormone but also because of its affect on your general
health and wellness.
